Table Base

Together, these two maple structures support a massive
piece of 3/4 inch thick glass to form a striking, 12 person
dining table. This piece was a very enjoyable exercise in
minimalist design and precision craftsmanship.
The structure had to be engineered to support significant
weight – the 3/4 inch thick x 4 feet x 8 feet glass top
weighs 330 pounds. Each piercing beam had to be
exactly 4” x 4”, with perfectly square corners, in order
to fit smoothly into the 4” x 4” holes in the ‘waffle’.
Each assembled base had to be dead level and flat to
support the rigid glass dining surface without wobble.
We took our time and the client was elated with
the results.
