The structural elements of this modular design – curve of the back legs, joinery angles – do not change from chair to chair, allowing for precise and efficient manufacturing. Aesthetic elements, however, do.
Choose Wood Type
We use ash, oak, cherry or walnut for the chair chasis (legs and seat support structure). There is a great range in color among these species - choose from bone white ash to chocolate-colored walnut (click links above or view examples below). These North American hardwoods are strong and are excellent 'steam benders' (steam bending is the technique we use to achieving the curve in the back legs) and are locally available (we are ecologically conscious and work with native woods whenever possible).
The seat and backrest are normally made of the same hardwood as the chassis. Other wood species can be considered by special request in order to make additional color options available (see 'ash/bloodwood' example below).
Choose Seat Height
Standard chair seat height is 17" above the floor. However, some people prefer a slightly lower chair height of 16". Your choice.
Choose Seat shape
Seats and backrests can be cut to various shapes and sizes. We are currently working to produce some examples, which we will list here soon.
Choose Fabric for Uphostery
We are currently working on an upholstered seat option. You will be able to choose from several fabric selections or provide your own. We will show these options here soon.
